Pours mahogney brown with off-white bubbly head, and that left lots of spider lace. However, the first tasting had almost no head. Aroma is yeasty however somewhat barleywinish was first tasting. Taste is noticeably thin for the style. Taste was Ok, a bit sweet, basic and drying finish.

The label makes it seem like this will be a golden color with ample head and beads of carbonation. So how come it looks like a dubbel that's gone flat? There's a peculiar little bait and switch going on here.

That said, it's a rich plum color with a small head that dies down to nothing. Zero lacing. Not what I expect from a tripel at all.

The aroma is a steely, rubbery, fruity pear and berry twang of apples and plums.

And it tastes like that too. There's a sweet plummy start followed by a phenolic bandaid taste, with a strong spicy bitterness in the finish and aftertaste. Alcohol is present and almost too much so, very boozy. It's a little on the sour side.

The mouthfeel is a little thin and watery, yet it's dry.

Overall I can't recommend this beer. Especially if you're after a good tripel--it certainly doesn't rank anywhere near amongst the greats and has very little, if anything, of a Belgian Tripel about it. It's just kind of an odd duck. I would never get this again.

The taste is interesting for the style. very rich. some notes on vanilla maybe or something.

***Brassin (Batch) #2***

Enjoyed this with some homemade chocolate & raisin oatmeal cookies while watching 24 last night.

Poured from a 341ml. bottle.

Appearance: Pours a brown, ruby red body that looks a little murky. Thin off-white head (1 finger) that dissipates quickly.

Smell: Wood, dry berries, earthen & leather.

Taste: Spicy at first then some bitterness & boozy also. Has a bit of a brandy/cognac feel to it. Finishes a little thin. Some notes of caramel. Taste is good but doesn't last long after the sip.

Mouthfeel: Lots of carbonation but a little heavy with some heat. Oily in texture a little bit.

Drinkability: A fairly good drinker but not sure if i'd rush for another.

Overall: A good effort but not a great beer. I liked the taste but overall i was a little let down. I would have liked the taste to linger more. Other than that, not sure how else to explain so there it is.
