Purchased at the Frog and Parrot in Sheffield, S. Yorks with my buddy Wayne in 1992.
From the 1993 CAMRA Good Beer Guide.
Whitbread malt extract brew pub. Roger & Out is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's strongest beer and is also sold in nip bottles. Beers are kept under a CO2 blanket in casks and are made available to four other pubs.
From the back label:
Governor's Stealth Warning
Beware
Roger & Out
THE WORLD'S STRONGEST BEER!
(Guiness Book of Records 1988-1991)
with an Original Gravity of 1125 and must be respected because it may creep up on you.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
1125 OG. Poured from a nip bottle.
A: extremely deep rosy-brown color, near opaque, clear, no head
S: an amazing nose that can come only from a cellared barleywine, earthy, woody, burnt malt, somewhat cloying, very good overall, port-like qualities
T: held up extremely well, sweet taste up front but well-rounded with significant but aged hop bitterness finish, roasted treacle malt, definitely reminiscent of a port, woody, just a slight amount of oxidation but nothing distracting, a bit of EtOH noticeable but very mild, deep burnt licorice undertones noted also
M: good mouthfeel, nothing distracting for a beer 18 years of age!
D: very, can I have another? Nope, it's my last one.
