Bottling strip intact, bright orange rust lines the inside of the stopper as it's pulled. On the pour, the coloration is a deep hazy gold; not fully opaque but no longer with the clarity that I'm sure it once had. Small colonies of bubble still sit atop the body of the beer even after 65 years in the bottle.
The nose is actually really good - not as originally intended - but loaded with Brett character. Citrusy, floral, and a touch musty.
The palate is unfortunately long gone. Palatable, yes, but without any real character remaining other than cardboard, a touch of musty yeast, and stale bread. There's a hint of bitter citrus rind on the tail end, but nothing to really bring this one back from the dead.
The mouthfeel is nearly flat - if you hold the liquid on the tongue you get a bit of a tickle, but nothing to offer beyond that. A hint of lingering bitterness, but all-in-all beyond the nose this pale ale has expectedly mellowed in its entirety.
