On tap at the brewpub. Odd beer. No aroma. A bit of rouge in the yellow body, with a Caesar head, followed by a bit of lace. Carbonation is above average, and mouthfeel is below average. Mouldy dishtowel taste, and malt and bitterness, but it is all odd tasting.

The beer pours a dark amber/red color with a thick frothy offwhite head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is decent. It has a really malty, almost buttery aroma, with just a touch of hops in the nose. The taste is decent as well. It has a smooth caramel malt flavor that's borderline too sweet. It goes down easy and finishes with a lingering malt taste. The mouthfeel is average. It is a full bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This isn't the best amber around, but it's drinkable. The malt flavor and full bodied feel are a bit much.

Poured a little clear amber with a scant collar.
Little scents and the place was not smoky or too crowded to boot.
First swigs: Reminded m initially of a hoppy bitter. Went all over with watery thin and astringent flavor. Wound up being a cherry root beer fluff with tons of lace. Third best out of five.

I'm going to be harsh on NY's oldest brewpub.
Eye Candy: The Amber, Red, and Oktoberfest are exactly the same color and clarity. Resembles a colored glass of water. No head to speak of, no lacing, nothing. Not even carbonation bubbles.
The Nose Knows: Sweet malts upfront with a roasted finish. Decent enough.
Tongueland: Initially, Amber holds it own. It has excellent clarity and is very clean tasting. After 15 minutes, the malt sweetness morphed into a syrupy sweetness that made me think that I was drinking beer flavored water.
Bender Factor: Buffalo Brewpub is rumored to be an extract brewery. I went there with an open mind and was looking forward to purchasing their Oktoberfest, as I had sampled it at the Buffalo Brewfest. I began to get suspicious of their beers, which led me to try most of them before I gave up and went down the road to Pizza Plant.
I can honestly say that I will never purchase their house beers again. They have recieved subpar ratings on other sites and there have been similar complaints. Buffalo Brewpub should let Custom Brewcrafters brew their house beers.
