(Transcribed from notes) Tasted by a pint at the Lord of the Mall, a JDW pub nr. Trafalgar Sq., London, in mid-November 05.
A: pours a light amber hue, with a thin layer of off-white foamy cap which sustains surprisingly well.
S: flowery hop aroma dominates the nose, underlying a refreshing flow of pale+caramel maltiness~~Not very complex.
T: lightly biscuity maltiness upfront, backed by a lingering bitter-sweet nuttiness, a touch of caramelised sugar and spicy hop presence, which lends a slightly clashing touch to a moderately-dryish and bitter aftertaste. In retrospect, as the printed profile of this beer shows, the herbal flavour of First-Gold hops prevails over Hallertau hops, but in the subtly-nutty and herbal aftertone all elements mingle well together~~
M&D: a lively beer bearing a slightly dryish and tangy bitter palate throughout, while the overall flavour's subtleness somewhat surrounds the whole mouth and makes the enjoyment of this beer a long-lasting one, rather than being either powerful or exciting. Overall this is a highly quaffable autumn bitter, if only the body could be slightly richer.
