Pours a dark brown color with a foamy white head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee with a slight tarty bitterness that didn't fit. Taste was pretty standard with a chocolate/coffee mix but the flavors were lacking their normal kick. Not much else, lacking complexity. Finishes with a bitter astringency. The body in this was thin also. This wasn't a bad porter just a little below average.

Mostly opaque black, with lovely ruby highlights. Fine rich mocha head settles slowly to a thin cap.
Nose is chocolate malt, with an underlying earthy, slightly floral hoppiness. Nice roast barley/coffee element as well.
Mid-weight in the mouth, with a good dose of malt. The chocolate flavor dominates, but there is a touch of coffee to support it. With time some dark fruit notes appear as well. Mineral/chalky elements kick in on the finish giving extra length to the long, lingering bitterness. Excellent porter!
