This is a special one timer from Yazoo, brewed for Americana Fest in Nashville. Saw this on the shelf of my local bottle shop and had to give it a try. An article online stated this to be a smoked IPA with 62 IBUs, using some of the same smoked grain bill as Yazoo's Sue.
Beer poured from a bomber into a pint glass. Bottled on date was empty:
A: Bright tangerine in color. Finger and a half of creamy and fluffy head, Decent lacing. Pretty cloudy with some tiny particulates. Really pretty beer in the glass.
S: The aroma is slightly fruity with orange peel, tropical and melon notes. Caramel malt. Bready, biscuity smell. Not a typical American IPA smell at all. Very subdued hop character.
T: More malty than balanced or hop forward. Slight citrus, a little herbal/floral bitterness. A little roasted malt on the back end. Perhaps a little smoky taste to it. Mostly caramel malt and a wheaty taste.
MF: Not really sweet, but no real bitterness either. Medium-bodied. Seems like they use some wheat malt in this beer. Kind of interesting and odd mouthfeel, but not off-putting.
O: I think they tried to take the smokiness of a rauchbier kind of style and combine that with an American IPA and it turned in to nothing interesting. I'm not sure what this beer is trying to be. It is tasty however, not bad, just not what I expected. I would classify this as an English style Pale Ale.
