More orange brown than red but an attractive color none the less. Lasting tan cap and moderate lacing.
Aroma of heavier caramel malt with toffee and resinous hops in the background.
On entry malt is King and everybody else bows. It's a good, if simple, flavor that carries the weight. Hops slyly slip in mid palate and build to the finish. Some piney hop bitterness lingers in the aftertaste.
This was a one off back in 2015 and I knew the bottle was dated when I bought it but decided the risk was worth the effort. If the bottle had been fresher no doubt I would've ranked it higher but even faded it's still quite drinkable.

First had poured from a 25.4-oz. bomber into tulip. Yazoo calls Red House Ale a West Coast Red IPA, which could be off-putting, but that's an apt description.

Overall, this is a phenomenal and incredibly easy to drink beer. From the deep, dark red body to the white foam and pine needle smell to the smooth, hoppy taste and feel when it hits the lips, this beer instantly became one of my favorites.

a big bold piney red ipa, nice and dry but loaded with hop resin and texture. i think this is my second favorite of the yazoo beers i had on this trip. brick red in color, very dark amber, clearish, with a fluffy off white head resting effortlessly on top. it smells like a recently felled pine tree, with sap oozing from its broken branches, and the red malt base gives it a nice sweetness, notes of tea and orange zest are also present, but its not overly complex in any way, just dialed in and nuanced. the taste is even more alive than the nose, the pine factor on the hop profile is as high as it is in any beer out there, i found it almost invasive, certainly assertive to a high degree. wow. i feel an almost lethargic buzz from the hops, as much as i do from the alcohol, which is appropriate here. sticky at first on the palate, then dry. without this ridiculous hop dosing, it would be a sweet amber type, but there is enough hops coming on to render the grain second fiddle. english hybrid type yeast it seems, does the trick. awesome beer all around, deliciously fresh from the taproom!
