Our version of the classic Berliner Weisse style. A wheat ale brewed with blood-oranges and souring bacteria, for a funky bright fruity sourness and a tart finish.

Pours clean, brief foamy head that dissipates, leaves no lacing behind. Aroma is mainly raw sourdough, mildly funky, mildly yeasty, some salt, some harsh citrus pith without the citrus aromas. Tart but not sour, little bit of salt, lemon, acid. Mild carbonation makes it a less refreshing quaff than it could be. Not the best of the style by a long shot.

Poured into a teku pint. Batch number is indecipherable.
A- Pours a hazy peachish color with a 1/4 inch white head that doesn't retain long before becoming a thin ring around the edge of the glass and minimal surface foam. Not-so-resilient lacing leaves small clots behind.
S- Straightforward aroma of lactic acid and wheat with a dash of funkiness.
T- Again, very straightforward tart flavor with some wheat sweetness. Notes of lemon with plenty of citric acid.
M- Tart, not sour with medium carbonation and a light body.
O- Textbook case of Americanized Berliner Weisse. Not bad, not great.

Poured into a Weizen glass. Hazy but not turbid, pale straw color. A small, fleeting white foamy head that left no lacing. Aromas of oranges, white bread, dough, and faint lemons. The tartness got my attention on the first sip, but was crisp and enjoyable. The blood oranges appeared in the mid-palate, and became more prominent all the way to the finish. Really well-balanced and the oranges let the wheat and tartness stay front and center. A crisp, straightforward, delicious beer.
