Bright, wild and worn- the seventh installment of State of Funk takes the weathered, woody and musty tones of wild yeast and subjects it to the wily taste of tequila, pineapple and guava for an exotic, radiant and awakening facelift. Underneath its the saline rich gose that harbors this song and dance that occurs above the palate.

Pale gold and with a hazy fog built in, the beer's creamy and spritzy head is short in stature and longevity but hits the nose with a bright and tangy perfume. Citrus, funk and a brisk whiff of the sea mingle on the nose and harkens to those Caribbean days on the beach. Its taste is softly rounded with sourdough, tart candy and a rich pineapple sweetness of tropical fruit punch.

As the sweetness fades, the clean lacitic sourness washes the palate with refreshment. Lemon, lime, crabapple, gooseberry and sour white grape tease the palate with citrus and acidic flavor. A followup of tropical fruits carry a sherbet-like sweet tang with mango, passionfruit, guava and of course pineapple. Musty to follow, a deep and earthy perfume carries over to the late palate with booze soaked oak, curing leather, weathered fruit and a swift kick of tequilla spice.

Medium light and drying to near perfection, the bright fruit and tequila is amplified by the creaminess and sparkling character of carbonation. Spicy, boozy and with a rounded salinity, the beer's complex taste comes with an effortless drinkability, a light hay-like hop bite, a mature wood finish and a brief echo of delicate wheat in a short, dry aftertaste.
