Inspired by the Biere De Garde styles of Northern France- In 2016 we brewed a fresh hop ale with local hops grown at Sulphur Creek Farm and aged it with funky brett yeasts and a locally sourced souring lacto strain. It laid in wait until spring, ready to cheer on the new hop vines! Benefitting the Beaman Park to Bells Bend Conservation Corridor.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glas; batch 11, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy golden orange/amber color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lightly tart lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, red/green apple, mango, melon, white grape/wine, citrus peel/zest, peppercorn, oak, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, and lightly toasted bread; with light notes of honey, caramel, oaken vanilla, leathery/musty funk, white wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/spicy/light acidic yeast, earthy hops, oak barrel, and bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lightly tart lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, red/green apple, mango, melon, white grape/wine, citrus peel/zest, peppercorn, oak, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, and lightly toasted bread; with light notes of honey, caramel, oaken vanilla, leathery/musty funk, white wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate peppery yeast spiciness, herbal/grassy/citrus rind bitterness; and light lactic tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, red/green apple, mango, melon, white grape/wine, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, oak, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, lightly toasted bread, light funk/vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy/light acidic yeast, earthy hops, oak barrel, and bready flavors; with a nice malt/bitter/tart/spiciness balance, and minimal puckering/astringent flavors after the finish. Moderate increasing dryness from bitter/spicy/tartness and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, grainy/sticky/tannic, and lightly acidic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 5.6%. Overall this is an excellent wild Biere de Garde. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy/light acidic yeast, earthy hops, oak barrel, and bready flavors; very smooth, crisp, and pretty refreshing to drink with the moderately bitter/spicy/tart/drying finish, not overly lactic. Really well rounded Brett/Lacto/saison yeast complexity; nice earthy hop balance, oak presence, and bready malt backbone. A very enjoyable offering, and well made style example.
