This dark strong ale was fermented with a blend of Belgian and Norwegian yeasts, along with our house mixed culture, while aging in our French Oak Foudre. Then spent 2 months conditioning on Blackberries and Raspberries.

Carnivale Brettanomyces 2019. Draught @ Beer Temple, Amsterdam. Pours a clear dark brownish red colour and a small beige head. Aroma's: strong raspberry and some blueberry, sweet fruit and some sourness. Retronasal it's fruit and sour. Flavour is sour with some sweetness from the fruit. Medium bodied. Long finish.

Poured into a tulip glass.
Look: A muddy dark reddish purple color that looked dark plum in the glass. A standard pour produced a fairly large pink-tan head that lingered throughout the drink.
Aroma: bright fruit - blackberries and raspberries. Oak and funk especially on the back end.
Taste: fairly tart and mouth-watering. Mainly tart raspberries with blackberries and tart plums on the finish. Less funk than on the aroma, but the wood and funk was there throughout, acting like a backbone for the fruit.
Feel: medium-bodied and slightly sticky.
Overall: Fantastic. The fruit mingled extremely well with the oak. Complex and delicious.

Poured into an Embrace the Funk stemmed Stange glass.
Look: Deep red / purple blend, closer to a plum color than garnet. Moderate-sized head with a pinkish tint that fades somewhat slowly.

Smell: Huge berry forward nose- dominantly tart, fresh raspberries, followed by blackberry and light oak toast.

Taste: Fruit-forward, I can taste all aspects of the raspberry: fruit, seed, skin in all. Initially very puckeringly sour, reminiscent of the Warheads I used to power through when I was younger. Blackberries follow up after the raspberry, lending a nice sweetness that rounds it out. Light toasted oak on the back end for balance- this isn't a new wave sweet fruit juice bomb.

Feel: Puckeringly sour on the first few sips. Moderate body, lingering finish.

Overall: Embrace the Funk knocked it out of the park with this one. I initially had it at a local beer festival, and glad I was able to find this one in a bottle locally. Killer overall, leaning more into the purely sour zone and away from the classic funkiness already I know and love from ETF. Outstanding beer!
