Our friends at B. Nektar meadery had a great idea...let's exchange barrels. Brad sent us the bourbon barrel that held a single batch of mead named Sir Ashley. We decided to put a brown ale in the barrel and under pitch our house Brettanomyces and souring cultures to let some of the residue mead yeast help ferment the beer. After resting in a barrel for over a year we added fresh Michigan-grown tart cherries from a small family farm to kick off a secondary fermentation.
