For this batch, we first wort hopped with Nugget and Simcoe, then Amarillo and Cascade at 30 min, followed by more Nugget and Simcoe at five minutes left in the boil. We dry-hopped with Cascade and Nugget after six days in the fermenter. We were aiming for a pure West-Coast-style shot-o-grapefruit-juice IPA, and I think that is what we got!

The pour was gentle, resulting in a very bright amber, hazy and amply carbonated liquid which sat in its glass covered with a monster of a three inch or more head. This rested gently down and left behind generous amounts of side glass clingy and sticky lace, that are in all likelihood still there the next day. Just a great overall look, damn perfect for the style. The aroma coming off this knocked me back off of my feet for a good minute. Huge floral hop presence, I mean huge. Tons of citrus flavors, orange, tangerine, and very sweet as well. There was just a really fresh aroma coming off of it. It was literally dripping fresh. The taste was enormous. I had a hop profile that made you go nuts. Lots of orange and pineapple mixed in with a ton of sweetness, it was just heaven. A big resin, bitter dry finish was superb. Great smooth and light feel was no match for the huge flavor in here

Picked this up at my local beer store in their clearance spot for $1/bottle. Poured into a shaker pint glass.

Like all the Yazoo Hop Project, very amber, slightly cloudy. Massive rocky head on this one that was a full two inches in height. Decent looking beer.

I know I got this one a bit old, but it still had a lot of hop aroma. Nice grapefruit, bright aroma. Not much pine here at all, just some citrus & a bit of grassy/herbal flavor. Nice solid HP.

Taste is surprisingly more dank than the aroma which was brighter. Also some of the grapefruit from the aroma in there. Lighter malt flavor than some previous HPs, and tons of long lasting bitterness. This is definitely one of the more bitter HPs I've tasted (which I like a lot). The bitterness is a bit of a harsh bitterness.

Nice creamy mouthfeel. Nice carbonation. A good HP, though the harshness of the bitterness isn't perfect. I like the strong bitterness but it's slightly too harsh.

yet another BA who received this one from kirkpjr... thanks.

poured from a 12oz bottle, a hazy brownish orange to a sun king brewery shaped pint glass with a 1/2 finger short lasting head.

aroma of earthy and citrus / leaning strongly toward grapefruit hops.

initially bitter to the tongue, and the bitter doesn't even begin fade. an earthy, though not too earthy taste follows after the first couple sips. not my favorite hoppy flavor, but nowhere near the earthiness of a few of the terrapin brews - gamma ray coming to mind in particular.

medium carbonation and a bitter bite to the tongue and the back of the throat - mouthfeel not particularly enjoyable.

not too drinkable, mainly due to the bitter bite...

Thanks to kirkpjr for this bottle.

A - Pours a 1/2 inch of creamy looking off-white head. The head retention is pretty good and it leaves some spider web lacing. The beer is clear with a dark golden-orange appearance.

S - The aroma has a nice juicy hop fruitiness along with a nice caramel malt presence.

M - Light-medium in body with good carbonation.

T - This beer is 3 months old now, so the hops have faded a little, but there is still a pretty big grapefruit taste from beginning to finish with a nice caramel malt backbone. It finishes with a bit of citrus and a nice lasting bitterness.

Being a hop head myself, I enjoyed this beer. The hops flavors are a little one-dimensional but it still has a nice taste. I'd love to try future beers from this project.

I got this brew from kirkpjr, Thanks John!

12oz bottle (bottled 1st week of March) served in a standard pint glass.

L - hazed copper color with a creamy beige head that left a good amount of lacing.
S - citrus hops and malty sweetness.
T - the hops have tamed a bit and good malty backbone shows through before a grapefruit rind bitterness on the finish.
F - medium bodied with mild carbonation.
D - it was ok.

Poured from a bottle dated Week 1 of March into a pilsner glass.

A: Pours a hazy orange-brown with a touch of head and moderate amounts of bubbles. Some scattered lacing.

S: Smells great. True to the description, grapefruit is the most prominent scent, almost -- but not quite -- overpowering the hops.

T: Oh. Hm. Way too much grapefruit. Honestly, that's the only thing I can taste at first. Bitter hops follow, but weakly, as if ashamed to approach the Grapefruitiness. The very end of the taste manages to get the balance just right, and it's quite good, but although the aftertaste starts similarly balanced, it waxes strongly citrus-peel bitter before receding into a more manageable taste.

M: Nice enough. Carbonation and citrus are an enjoyable combination for the mouth.

D: Again, too damn much grapefruit. Not enough for me to not finish my beer, mind you, but such that even if I could get ahold of this beer again, I'd pass it up.

a- bright transluscent orange. little head on this one and fairly light lacing, too.

s- big caramel malt backbone but very little play from the hops. I'm not getting much other than some floral notes.

t- good caramel sweetness with relatively light bitterness...it seems more like a lightly hopped pale ale. I'm really disappointed with this hop project.

m- the mouthfeel is very pleasant. nice carbonation level and a medium body.

d- I'm hoping future Hop Projects I taste will top this one.

Bottle into Sam Adams sensory glass, marked March wk 1 on the side.

Pours clear bright copper, with a thinnish off-white head on top. delicate lacing along the side of the glass.

Nose is a nice mix of big grapefruit, bit rindy, with a lighter pine note underneath, and just a hint of the caramel malt body poking through.

Taste is very nice, very west coast. Smooth piney bitterness up front, shooting quickly towards juicy grapefruit towards the finish, dry throughout, but without being overly bitter. Finish holds a manageable lingering bitterness with more fantastic juicy grapefruit, just a bit pungent. This is exactly my kind of IPA - I've been waiting for one like this from Yazoo, can't believe it took me this long to try it.

Mouthfeel is (again) dry, full of hop oils, smooth and with a carbonation that is perfectly calibrated but yet hardly noticeable through the fantastic hop presence. Medium to medium-full bodied.

Drinkability is excellent. If I was of a mind, I could down a number of these - nicely dry with a lingering bitterness that is just perfectly balanced. Love it.

Appearance: Pours a clear amber color with a thick head that leaves plenty of lacing action on the sides of the glass

Smell: While there is plenty of citrus fruit on the nose, there is also a surprising caramel malt profile as well

Taste: Caramel malt flavors, up front, and it takes a while for the bitter hops to kick in, but when they do, the flavor is very pithy, with an aspirin-like bitterness; after the swallow, the hop flavors dominate into the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Drinkability: West Coast IPA...I don't think so, and I am not a big fan of the hop profile on this one as I don't like the aspirin flavor; at the same time, kudos to Yazoo for embarking on this project - if I lived in Nashville, I would be sampling every one of them

A big thanks to Tony for bringing a growler of this to a recent brew day.

It poured a crisp clear amber from a clear glass growler into a shaker pint glass. The beer was filled almost to the top and had plenty of carbonation and an acceptable fluffy head.

The hop aroma was a unique one for me. It was a little grassy with a nice strong grapefruit aroma. It seemed like a nice smooth but subdued aroma for a west coast style IPA which is what he brewery said they were aiming for.

The flavor profile mirrored the uniqueness of the nose. A bright hop taste with a earthy flavor to it and just a litle bit of citrus at the end. The bitterness was medium and a little spicy which complimented the earthy hop taste. Not much malt flavor influence and a nice dry finish which I like in my IPA's.

Medium bodied and an adequate level of carbonation. It was very approachable and a nice easy drinking IPA. It didn't scream West Coast to me as they brewers suggest but I found it to be a great beer nonetheless.
