As brewers everywhere seem to embrace some sort of funk, the reprieve from the common kettle sour ale comes out of the Yazoo Brewing Company with a oak aged sour ale laced with peaches and Sicilian lemons , and with a little wilder sense of funk.
The Peach & Sicilian installment of Embrace the Funk allows for a tangy citrus and stone fruit aroma that laces with white wine, cider, balsa and burlap for a citrusy and vinous character that drifts above a racy froth and a glowing translucent goldenrod body. With the scant sweetness of fructose, sourdough and wafer, the upstart is lightly malty and with a hint of floral honeysuckle.
As sensations of hard candy dissolve rapidly off of the middle palate, the moderate tartness of dry cider, wine and citrus all bring bold acidity with a piquant peppery quality. The juiciness of peach carry their own tangy and pectin bite while the ale fades into a mild but lightly funky, fresh and fruity finish.
Medium-light on the palate, the beer's winey character keeps thing on the drying track as a bloomy finish of tannic, drying woods, burlap, balsa and sourdough adds a light briskness to its finish. Yet there's something bland, lackluster and dull about its taste leading to a watery lemonade aftertaste.
