Freshness: Unknown
Packaging: Cask
Glassware: Nonic pint
Purchased: On tap at the brewery
A: Black and opaque beer. The tan head was minimal from the pour. Lacing and retention were fair.
S: Aromas have typical stout features of roasted malts with a coffee-like aspect, plus the chocolates and vanilla that were added to the cask.
T: As in the aromas, I tasted chocolate malts and vanilla, along with some coffee-like roasted grain and bitterness. Nice blending of flavors, with none of them overshadowing the others. Overall a dry beer.
M: Light bodied, as you'd expect, with a low level of carbonation. The finish is dry, with aftertastes of vanilla bean and chocolate/coffee.
O: I thought this was a good blend of the dry stout base, vanilla beans and cocoa nibs. Each component was evident and made for a good balance.
