A - Pours a nice, clear medium to dark amber orange color with an even, frothy, white head.

S - Spicy, peppery citrus rind, resiny, and slightly juicy with a light malt aroma buried way down there.

T - Light caramel malt nips the tongue initially but then is buried by a wall of spicy bitterness that consists of pine resin, spicy grapefruit rind, slight earth and herbally, with some floral and grass bitterness. Ends with a slight floral and pine bite that sticks around on the palate for quite awhile.

M - Medium body and very dry on the finish.

O - Pretty good and definitely worth a try!

Appearance - saw this lone sixer in Pigeon Forge this spring and nabbed it. Pours with a reddish tint to the hazed gold body. Nice-looking head, manila in color, very thick, creamy, and sticky. Lots of lace to stare at.

Aroma - pungent, earthy hop oils mixed with an underlying breadiness. Grapefruit rind, smells high alpha.

Taste - pleasant grainy and citrus opening. Some brief florals before the hops get to it. Lots of pine resin and grapefruit rind, this gets intense and kind of harsh. The swallow ushers in even more bitterness with the finish going dry and a bit medicinal.

Mouthfeel - crisp and fluffy, good body and weight.

Overall - I liked the flavor the least of all the components. Needs more balance for me, not one I'd go back for but glad I tried it.

Appeareance: A boatload of carbonation caps the copper colored liquid, leaving an intricate web of lacing behind

Smell: Caramel and pine tones

Taste: Very malty, up front, with caramel and vanilla tones; in the middle, the piney hops arrive, bringing a slight herbal element; the malt and hop flavors clash a bit, in the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: I have had mixed experiences with the Hop Project series and haven't had one in a good while; overall, I find they have a bit too much of a malt presence for my palate and this one was no exception

#72. 06052013 bottling date.

A: A perfectly clear amber with a huge fluffy light tan head. Fades slowly with great head retention. Decent walls of lacing.

S: Kind of a mild herbal and piney aroma.

T: Taste is thankfully not as mild as the aroma. Lots of herbal hops here. Piney, resinous to boot. Not much malt, some breadiness towards the finish. Very herbal with quite a bit of bitterness in the aftertaste. Some spiciness and pine in there still.

M: Medium bodied, effervescent and drying in the finish.

O: I enjoyed this version quite a bit. Don't get a lot of herbal IPAs nowadays. Certainly even rarer to get one that is any good for that matter. This one is herbal, resinous and spicy. Well balanced and tasty with proper bitterness.

12oz bottle, dated 06/05/13, poured into a Duvel tulip.

A: A straight pour delivers a clear copper body topped with two inches of incredibly dense, meringue-like off-white head. Incredible retention and tons of solid lace. A bit darker than I like for an IPA, but stunning nonetheless.

S: Predominantly herbal, a bit piney, and there's just a hint of pineapple in there as well. Plenty of sweet caramel malt underneath the hops, too. Pretty good.

T: Spicy and herbal hoppiness up front, with caramel and butterscotch malt sweetness quickly filling in behind. The hops reassert themselves toward the finish with some welcome citrus and a profound bitterness. Long, bittersweet aftertaste. Intense, but a little too heavy.

M: Lively, frothy medium body. More carbonation than necessary, but not enough to be a distraction.

O: Enjoyable IPA, but I'm glad I got a single instead of a sixer.

Cheers!
