North America's “Original Steinbier.” Brewed using a traditional German technique, stones heated in our wood fired ovens are lowered into the beer during the brewing process, giving the beer its unique caramel character. Awarded “Three Stars” by Michael Jackson, the world’s leading beer writer. Great with salads and lightly flavored dishes.

This seems to be their signature beer. It was served in a standard pint and it is light gold with a chill haze and no head.

Light fresh aroma of grains, floral hops and

The taste leads with sweet milled grains, honey and a touch of caramel.

The mouth is slick with mid-level carbonation.

This is pretty easy drinking beer. It has a bit of a twist that I liked.

D: Crisp and smooth, nice and drinkable but not overly memorable.

A: Pours a clear amber/golden color. A small bubbly white head forms, but recedes to nothing. No lace.
S: Sweet malt and some cereal and grain. Light hops linger.
T: Sweet malt, cereal, and grain. Light hops again.
M/D: A lighter body. Crisp and dry. On the watery side though. Easy to drink. I can quaff a few of these if nothing else was available.

Bland and watery. This reminds me of a watered down version of Anchor Steam. Not bad, just bland.

Draught in Little Rock: This one pours a clear golden amber color that had a small white head on it. The head drops away very quickly, and left almost no lacing. The aroma was a bit light and slightly sweet. Some caramel and fruit notes to the nose. The taste was decent. It was slightly sweet, and very smooth and drinkable. Notes of caramel, fruits, earthiness and a faint nuttiness to it.

A - Pours a nice honey color with a thin head that disipated quickly leaving no lace and a tiny ring.
S - Not much here. Touches of sweet malt and the lightest touch of grassy hops.
T - Light toffee and burnt caramel with a chrisp hop finish.
M - Chrisp with a fizzy carbonation.
D - Light and chrisp with enough flavor to make a nice session.

It started with a big, fluffy, bone-white head and quickly reduced to just a thin covering on the top of the beer. What happened? Was it something I said? Don't leave, I liked looking at you, baby. Whoops, different convo. It was those hallucinogens kicking in again. There was NE-quality clarity in a honey-golden colored beer with lots of effervescent bubbles. The nose had a lager-like sweetness. The mouthfeel was thin, but I experienced a very sweet caramel taste in the mouth. The finish was again lightly sweet, more lager-like than an APA. The style listing may need to be changed.

Tasted on-tap 04/17/07 at Boscos in Little Rock, AR.

Light golden in color with a low off-white head. Light malt and light caramel aromas and flavors without a hint of hops. Light bodied but fairly smooth and decently balanced.

Not one I think of for the American Pale Ale category due to low hop rate. A unique try due to the brewing methods employed.

True golden color with just a bit of caramel overtones from tossing in the hot stones. Starts a bit sweet but finishes rather dry. Fairly light overall taste impression but not without character. A well made beer. Would truly make a good match for a green salad with grillled chicken. Perle and Tettang, OG 1048

Beer is an amber-tinged gold color with a one finger, sudsy white head. It leaves a bit quickly and shows minimal lacing. Clumpy yeast blots are left on the surface. Nose is faint and of malt. Beer starts off yeasty with a nutty sweetness backed up by a faint hop bitter. Apple flavor is present and there is a dry finish. The mouthfeel is good and I could knock back a few of these, if I wasn't so full of Boscos pizza.

The beer arrived at the table clear golden amber with a low white head that was persistent and laced the glass.

The aroma was large with caramel and diacetyl. Quite a bit of toffee aroma was noted and no burning of the caramel at all.

The flavor was diacetyl, but at a lower level than was presented in the aroma. Toffee and caramel flavors were present. The beer was quite crisp after an initial level of sweetness.

The finish was dry withe slight diacetyl into the aftertaste. The body was medium and the beer was very easy to drink. The diacetyl was definitely overdone in the beer.

OG 1.048 IBU 16 - The writeup said theat the beer was brewed with superheated stones form the wood pizza ovens.

Aroma: Doughy with a mild orange rind note. Very mild
Appearance: Quick head collapsed onto a thick golden clear glass never to lace or be seen again.
Flavor: Sourdough malty base supports nice peppery (Saaz? I’m thinking noble) hops. The malt gives almost a Helles Bock flavor, but the hops are much stronger than that.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, low carbonation which helped drinkability.
Overall Impression: Not as much roasted or caramel flavor as I was hoping for from the Stein brewing method. Still, a nice lighter flavored beer that had good drinkability going for it.

Tasted November 2003.

The beer was gold/amber in color with a lasting head. Aroma is sweet and malty. Light in the hops department. Flavor is a unique carmel-like malty flavor that is hard to describe. According to the brewery it is "brewed using a traditional German technique, stones heated in our wood fired ovens are lowered into the beer during the brewing process, giving the beer its unique caramel character." Finishes smooth and clean. I was not impressed but it was a good tasting beer. Many customers seem to like it. I hear that they cask condition this beer sometimes.
