As with all beers at this friendly brewpub, it is served in a standard pint. The beer is mahogany with a light brown head.

It has an inviting aroma of brown sugar and lightly roasted malts.

The taste is slightly sweet with chocolate malts, a touch of vanilla, a bit of raisins and some toasty malts and fruits.

The mouth is slick with a bit of heft. My favorite beer during my visit.

First had: on tap at Bosco's, Little Rock, AR

A: Clear, dark, reddish-brown, moderate white head.

S: Roasty malts, sugars.

T: Matches the aroma pretty well: roasty malts, and light caramel or toffee tones. Some alcohol.

M: Medium body, moderately carbonated.

D: Average drinkability, with a little too much sweetness, though that is to be expected in the style.

Aroma
Some light roasted malt scent, but not very effervescent aroma wise.

Mouthfeel
Bit of body here a bit creamy/watery as it hits the mouth, and medium carbonation.

Appearance
Nice mahoghany/dark red color. Poured first beer from growler bottle to slight head, which dissipated quickly.

Taste
Virtually all malt taste here, roasted slightly off nutty taste but pretty muted.

Drinkability
Rather, think I could get through a few. Nice finish which doesn't seem as if it would wear thin over time.

Overall
Good solid beer and rather drinkable but not exceptional.

A: Pours a dark brown color with some ruby highlights around the edges. A small bubbly, beige head forms and recedes in a second. Almost no lace is left behind.
S: Sweet toffee and vanilla up front. Lightly toasted malt with some chocolate.
T: Follows the nose, but the toasted malt and chocolate is even bigger. Which I really like. Again, some toffee and vanilla sweetness.
M/D: A medium body that is a bit over carbonated. Pretty chalky as well. This is missing that great creamy texture. Easy to drink. I can have a few with ease.

Not bad at all. If I was a local this would be a go to beer for me at the brewpub. Though there are much better examples that can be found. Still something I would recommend if visiting the brewpub.

Tasted on-tap 04/17/07 at Boscos in Little Rock, AR.

Solid brown in color with a low tan head. Buttery and malty aromas and flavors. I've never cared for the diacetyl/butter character in beers. Medium-full bodied and smooth with a bit too buttery finish.

Per Boscos website: 7 types of malt, three varieties of hops, and a touch of vanilla.

Soft dark amber color. Pleasant, lightly hoppy aromas. They claim to blend seven malts and three hops to create this complex, moderately full-bodied brew. It works. I think they hit it. A bit of smoked malt is evident, but not too much to overpower the other malts. Leaves a lingering richness in the mouth. Definite vanilla. Horizon and Glacier hops used. OG 1066

The beer arrive at the table clear light golden amber with a white head which was low and long lasting.

The aroma was caramel maltiness and slightly nutty with a slight vanilla. Also present was a slight hop aroma.

The flavor was malty yet quickly changed to dry. The hop level balanced the malt character and was coupled with a slight nuttiness (Munich?).

The finish was just dry with a lasting caramel impression and a medium body. A nice beer, but nothing overly exciting.

Aroma: Mostly a stout like nose with a healthy dose of milk chocolate, or chocolate milk.

Appearance: Pure black glass with a nice half finger of creamed coffee head that laced nicely. Very pretty

Flavor: Burnt malts like black patent and chocolate malts, touch of grain, a good dose of chocolate and a well balance malt sweet and crisp hop. Overall the beer was clean.

Mouthfeel: A bit fizzy which helped the medium-heavy body. The texture was a bit thick.

Overall Impression: Massively drinkable. Loved the chocolate notes and the clear bitter flavors. Scottish? Really? I think they are way off on style, but I just didn’t care. Very nice beer.

From notes taken at the brewpub. Aroma is dark brown with a ruby glow when viewed in the light. Head is light and mildly creamy. Aroma is barely perceivable, clean, with just a touch of dark malts. The taste is of roasted malts with a dry and spicy hop finish. This wasn't exactly what I expected, seemed to be missing "scottish" taste. Still, I found this very enjoyable and drinkable.

Tasted November 2003 (review from notes)

Dark in color (notes are very sketchy at this point...wonder why) and thin, weak head. Malty aroma. Flavor is peaty and malty and the finish is smoooth! A real easy to drink and surprisingly enjoyable Scottish ale--this coming from a guy who says he detests the style! Another solid brew from Boscos in the "Rock".
