Not quite a barleywine in its most recent incarnation, but still a nice, darker, maltier ale from HG. Something akin to an Arrogant Bastard, but the balance here lies in the dark, red maltiness.

Finally got around to adding this brew, Olde Bastard, which comes and goes seemingly at whim at the Hunter Gatherer. It's called a barleywine but is an old ale in my book, and I listed it as such. An odd brew, but worth trying.

A. Dirty, muddy-red with an everlasting 2 - 3cm slightly sticky head. Unfiltered and rough-hewn looking.

S. Interesting blend of roast malt, cocoa, sweet dark sugars, grapefruit-citrus hops that are pungent and forward, medium booze and clean, good, young smelling old ale.

T. Tastes like a 60 / 40 blend of roasty American stout and a West Coast IPA. Strong citrusy hops hold their own against a sweet, semi-thick choco-roasted malt profile. Overall sweet and with a decent hop bite. Odd, and tasty.

M. Mid-full, smooth after an initial carbonation crack. Filling and relatively easy for the ABV.

D. Not bad, I had a pint and a half with dinner. This is one of the better offerings from HG, as it breaks the mold somewhat and, at 7.5%, is bolder than the usual fare. A little rough, and slightly vague, but a good beer and a recommended beer if you find yourself in Columbia's only brewpub.
