This showed up a few weeks ago at the local watering hole, and I'm really digging it, hence this review.
A. Arrives in my pint glass pretty rough looking - in a good way. Dirty, dusty walnut in color, sports a 3cm dirty tan head with decent retention and little bits of lace. Good nuff.
S. This is more like it! Basically a bold, spicy American porter (Think Founders or Foothills), with a fair amount of chocolate, pure roasty malt, some bittering hops and sweet, spicy rye that I suspect kicks everything else up a notch. Clean, sharp, immediate and good.
T. Mm, porter... this is first off just a fine American porter, lots of roast, hints of coffee, cocoa, sweet dark malts and a clean hop / malt profile, nothing odd or out of focus. The rye is absolutely evident in the flavor but isn't wild or over the top. This is still a porter, in other words. Mildly earthy and clean, but not "too" clean, there is some character here. Very tasty.
M / D. Medium body, fine peppy carbonation off the tap, and leaves behind a wonderful roasty-sweet aftertaste. I easily downed two pints and would have more.
Possibly the best thing I've had from Hunter-Gatherer, this is a very solid porter and one I hope gets added to the rotation. Recommended.
