Ya gotta love a place that makes you wait on yourself (hence the high marks for service).

Dave Baker and his wife nearly closed this place down a while back, and it's a good thing for beer lovers they didn't. GBC has a fine stable of beers, most of them very true-to-style. Devil's Den IPA appealed to me, but the Porter was rock solid as well.

As mentioned by others, the place has no TV and encourages conversation. An advisory on the menu sugesst that if you don't like the way they run their pub, it's too damned bad. "Get up and go someplace else," is the quintessential message. But you'd be foolish if you did.

Don't expect fancy-schmancy in the way of food, but the menu is certainly adequate to satisfy most normal tastes--especially those of finicky kids. We were sated when we left.

It's a great family place, and it's only open on certain days of the week, so check for times before you go.

And while you're at it, check out the painting of Michaelangelo's "Creation of Adam" on the wall.

I'm betting the one in the Sistine Chapel is a forgery....

Gettsburg Brewing Company has done quite a great job. While I was there they had four great beers on tap with Pickets Imperial Porter on a Nitrogen tap being my favorite. The atmosphere was amazing. There are no televisions in order to purposefully promote conversation, as is stated in the menu. There are no waiters/waitresses, just a bar to walk up to where the brewmaster himself, David Baker, proudly poors his excellent work. The pub is smoke-free which was appealing to me. I did not have any of the food but it seemed as though they were serving snacks as opposed to dinner. The beer and the atmosphere are definitely worth checking out after a long day at the battlefield. Cheers!
