Flat, chocolate black, with no head at all. 3.5
Chocolate, apple, wood and spice nose. 4.25
Chocolate again, humus, fig, and grape skin. 4
Tea brack finish and brandy linger.
Medium, smooth, clingy. 4

Deep! The cider is there, as is the barrel. Puts some manners on the difficult style that is old ale. Probably still not worth Moor’s stupendous price tags, though. 4

Vintage 2012. Shared 660 ml bottle at local tasting, Aug. 2014. Very dark brown colour, nearly black, minimal tan head. Vinous aroma, notes of oak, hints of cider and calvados. Mild roasty notes in the background. Minimal carbonation. Warming mouthfeel. Very oaky flavour, roasty chocolate notes with hints of cider and calvados. Nice, but a little more carbonation would be an advantage.

Bottle Date: 2018
Palate Contaminants: none

Dark brown color. There's hardly any carbonation, probably the least I've ever seen.

Dark malt up front. Sweet rye bread, perfume, molasses, and dates. It could stand to be a little stronger though.

Lots of prunes to start for the taste. A bit of lightly charred wood in there, too. Anise. Sweetness is moderate-heavy, and the bitterness is toned way down.

I've had a handful of brews that have had very low carbonation, but this one is basically flat. I had to give it a vigorous swish to get the flavors closer to what I assume they would/should be. The aftertaste of pleasantly charred wood and raisins brings it up. There is plenty of detectable alcohol, though.

This one is frustrating because it's almost really good. The elements are there, and none of them are overbearing (which is the most ironic of problems), but the lack of carbonation kills it. I don't think storage duration was a problem, either, since I've had others last much longer, but I only got one bottle to "run the experiment" with.

Really dark brown color with beige head. Aroma has some old wood and dark fruits. Taste follows with old wood barrel, bitter earthy hops and some dark fruits. Not really bad but it's not good either.

“Old Ale aged in Somerset Cider Brandy Barrels, Vintage 2012”; coming in a 660ml bomber brown bottle, bottle-conditioned. BB /2014, served mildly chilled in a Gulden Draak’s short-stemmed tulip-shaped sniffer.

A: pours a pitch black colour coming with a rather thin dark beige cap, topped with very mild carbonation.
S: rick dark chocolate mousse comes with a touch of black cherry skins, very mild notes of funky old oak barrels, a light alcoholic kick, richly malty with a mild touch of plummy fruity esters and flowery hops in the background. Given a very good swirl, the pronounced vanilla-ish dark fruity undertones prevails on top of lively musky grapey fruitiness and much deeper notes of chocolaty malts. Overall, the aroma is very deep with layers of aroma.
T: very smooth on the entry, the texture is almost lubricating-ly winey, presenting rich-flavoured but flat-textured dark malts, burned nuts, black dates, faint banana-oil-ish esters, and vanilla, etc., like an Imperial Stout endowed with an extra body; then the flavour leads towards a rather focused, spicy-chewy and dry-ish aftertaste not unlike the finish of a rich fruit brandy, with a slightly chewy and spiced mouthfeel to it. Only a wee touch of alc. is detected down the throat, otherwise the palate is generally ultra-smooth and… “quiet”.
M&O: as mentioned above, I find the mouthfeel slightly too smooth which could’ve benefited from a touch of fizz, but the spicy or lightly stimulating mouthfeel which stays throughout the drink does help to keep the palate interested. This fulsome oak-aged RIS comes across as a more robust offer than 8%abv. would lead one to expect, but all in all the drinkability is immense due to the spicy elements lent by the oak-ageing process, making this potentially heavy stout lighter in terms of body as well as on the palate. A very decent and lovely beer this is.

Looks gorgeous when being poured forming a quick mocha head which sadly disappears pretty quickly. Dark brown black with very fine lines of red at the bottom of the glass.Bubbles cling to the inside of the glass though they disappear quickly. Lovely alcoholic brandy rum brown sugar nose.
Molasses thick heavy treacley silky brown to black body. Thick, rich, more stouty than old ale with a chewy syruppy body. Heavy and intense needing balance.
Would have been great if there was some head retention. Still likeable but less than the sum of its parts. Probably should have saved it for Christmas. Probably should have split the 660ml bottle with 'Wild Thing' but its the price he paid for going to football.
