Pours a dark, cloudy brown. Starts with a

Dark cocoa notes. Afterwards, there's an unusual off smell that reminds me of garbage (like spoiled milk). Overall, the smell is pleasant and slightly earthy.

Some definite burnt malts (probably black patent). This provides bitterness to an otherwise malty beer. Good balance between sweet and dry. The body is thin which could be expected from a lager, but it's not my style.

Overall, I like this beer far more than I expected given its style and brewery location. It might start to put France on the beer map.

Best Dec 09, poured into tulip.

Fizzy tan head settles quickly to nothing. Dark brown / mahogany colored liquid.

Light earthy and malty aroma. Hints of black olives, some oak and whiskey character.

The flavor is mostly of dark malts. There is some cola flavor, and hints of fruits like peach or strawberry, and a bit of light roast coffee flavor. It's sweet, as in the Breton style, but you get a bit of bitterness in the finish. Some roasted malt character in the finish as well.

Light carbonation, medium body, slightly cloying.

Drinkability is fine. Could be appreciated by sweet stout / porter fans.

Beer bottle (33cl), tasted 2005 (low fermentation).

Appearance : red-brown color, with tan foam head (not persistent).
Smell : Chocolate and caramel aromas.
Taste and mouthfeel : sweet, little hop in finish even bitter.
Drinkability : a good beer in the style dark lager.
