A one-off brewed to celebrate the DAM's 10th anniversary--hence the name.
As I sat down at the bar, my server Tiffany, who remembered me from my last few visits, mentioned that their new impy stout was on tap despite that fact that it wasn't on their big board of beers. Not great advertising (it was on the beer menu), so I was thankful for the tip. As I would expect from the DAM, this was to be a mild and tasty brew.
It comes midnight black with a long-lasting tan head and has a resinous, port-like bouquet. The DAM brewers have chosen for a sweeter interpretation of an RIS than I would have expected--it is a nice counterpoint to the dry, bitter Ten Fidy that Oskar Blues has been touting around Colorado lately--and though the sweetness overpowers some of the beer's more bitter, complex flavors, this finishes as an easy-drinking (!), medium-bodied RIS. But, make no mistake: this is a true imperial stout from start to finish and I appreciate how well the brewers have managed to showcase the raisiny, chocolate flavors in this beer.
A solid brew to commemorate ten great years of brewing in Summit County. Drunk with their other current seasonal--the Raspberry Porter--#10 makes the DAM a must-visit hot spot in the coming weeks.
