Found in Yekaterinburg in a standard brown half liter bottle with the classic yellow, blue and gold Zhigulovskoye label so common among Russian brewers. Ingredients conform to the purity law. Best before 4/5/05, I opened it on 2/1/05.
Poured plain clear gold under a two finger snow white head that faded slowly but couldn't muster any lace. Nose is full of bready malt and bad watermelon, also typical of the Zhigulovskoye style. The mouth is fairly heavy yet well carbonated. The taste is mild, with bread and barley predominant, while a bit of old, almost sour melon lurks in the background. There's not much hops here, but what does exist is fairly flowery, rather than metallic. The melon is the taste component that lasts the longest, leaving a full feeling in the jowls well after the liquid is gone. This is a pretty good rendition of a style I've never thought was good.
