From notes scribbled down at the brewpub on 12/29/14.
Pint poured at the brewery for approx. $3.50 (I think that was a happy hour price).
Dark orange-amber in color, with a beige colored head that left a decent amount of lace.
Malty aroma in common with most amber ales, with an undercurrent of bitter, herbal hop notes.
The taste was a little more rewarding than the nose. The charge to the tastebud beachhead was led by the malts, which were then paired up with spicy and herbal hop flavors. The hops took over things about midway through the taste, and dominated the fade-out, which ended on a moderate dry note.
Medium bodied, with a slightly oily and prickly mouthfeel.
Decent, but in late December I can't help but wonder what this was like a few months ago. The hop character could have been quite different.

Served from tap at brewery.
Appearance: deep copper. Almost Amber. Slight haze. Medium, fuzzy, off-white head.
Smell: caramel.
Taste: slight grain. Flowers and Tropical fruit hop flavor. Followed by grapefruit peel bitterness.
Mouthfeel: medium carbonation. Medium body. On the dry side.
Overall: good imperial red. Tasty. Would have scored higher if there was any hop aroma. Plus the grain flavor interrupted the drink.
