Thanks to woemad for this one. Nice hop presence, and easy drinkability were the two most notable aspects of this NW-style IPA. Worth trying if you see it.

From notes scribbled down at the brewpub in "downtown" Kennewick (or at least the old, eastern downtown - anyone who knows Kennewick knows what I'm talking about).
Pint consumed at the brewery for approx. $4 (I think beers at IH are a dollar off on Mondays). I'm not sure if it's a one-off or a winter seasonal - the bartender was very busy, but managed to look up the abv percentage .
The beer was a midnight black color, with a beige-colored head that left spotty lace.
Sweet and bitter aroma (in that order) of cocoa, brown sugar and soy sauce.
The taste is a little more complex, but not much. It's primarily sweet, with notes of cocoa, milk chocolate and brown sugar, but with an undercurrent of bitterness like soy sauce and coffee. The slightly salty soy sauce-ness is at a level that's tolerable, but would be better if toned down more (or entirely absent). The relatively high level of alcohol is well-hidden.
Relatively full-bodied, withe a thick and creamy mouthfeel.
A decent attempt at a big porter that I feel needs a little refinement. It's got too much sweetness upfront, and too much salty bitterness in the latter half of the taste to be something I'd want much of, but if hankering for a big, dark beer like an Imperial porter or stout, a glass of this could hit the spot.
