22oz bomber purchased at the Ice Harbor brewpub in Kennewick, WA, for $3.50. No freshness date, but it wasn’t in their cooler last time I was in town (early November) so I don’t think it’s very old.
Poured a clear golden color, with a good sized bone-white head that didn’t hang around more than 3-4 minutes but left a fair amount of lace on the sides of an Ice Harbor nonic pint glass. Said head was easy to agitate back to life. Great clarity to this!
Light, floral hop aroma and sweet, bready malt scent.
Typical, restrained kolsch flavor. I’ve always viewed a kolsch as German ale version of a pilsener, and that’s what this tastes like, with a crisp finish and a little bit of lingering hop flavor in the after taste.
Light bodied, with a slightly oily mouthfeel.
I get that the fall is kinda fresh hop season, but this would be an awesome summer beer. Not a flavor bomb (you don’t drink a kolsch for that) but quite sessionable. My only complaint is that the old label art for the Columbia Kölsch with the bi-plane was a lot more interesting compared to the fairly generic style IH has embraced.
