12 oz. unlabeled bottle procured during visit to the brewery from the kind brewmaster, bottled the day before, 1.30.10, poured into St. Bernardus chalice.
Light amber cloudy body, 1 finger white head, fairly slow dissipation, leaves a nice sheet of head on top of body, some lacing present. Not much hop presence in the nose, a bit of citrus but mainly floral notes, bready malts, with a bit of vanilla which becomes more noticeable as the beer warms. Taste features goodly amount of hops leading to a bitterish finish, sweet malts more present in taste, but a fairly dry finish. Mouthfeel features average carbonation. Not sure about the drinkability, I was luck to score one of less than 10 cases of bottles. The vanilla is very subtle, not picking up a lot of tannins, guessing this has been aged less than 6 months. An interesting attempt, could use more aromatic hops. I might lean towards their regular IPA right now, but with a few small tweaks this could be a really killer beer.
