On tap at the brewery. Oddly, this was their seasonal, and the regular Golden Stave was not available. Shame - would have been nice to try them side-by-side.
Pours a deep amber golden colour with good lacing, although the head is a little filmy. Overall, looks pretty decent.
Boozy on the nose, with a pronounced oaky wood note. The wood is certainly dominant imparting some big vinous notes. There is a roundness to it as well, but the wood is the main event.
Big oak characters on the palate as well adding sharpness and breadth to an otherwise sweet and lightly boozy heat. Pretty nice all up - it at least has multiple characters to work off each other.
Nice. Surprisingly drinkable for the fresh sharpness of the oak and the heat. Not bad, and probably one of the best I had on the night.
