Had this October 2011. 8.9% ABV Imperial Red Ale.
Appearance: dark amber in color with a short 1/2" head.
Smell: caramel and fruit sweetness with a definite hop presence.
Taste: big malt profile here. Loads of caramel, overripe fruit sweetness, grapefruit, a hearty bitteness, and a mild alcohol tone create a big flavored beer.
Mouthfeel: heavy in body. Smooth from start to finish with dryness arriving at the swallow. Long lasting aftertaste.
Overall: a slow sipping big beer that is a departure from the standard offerings at Thirsty Bear. I found this to be nicely enjoyable, but one glass was enough for the session.

Notes from SF trip.
A- Ruby red with a one finger white head. Decent retention and a nice ring leaves plenty of spotty lace.
S- Balance of hops and malts, nice for the style. Some caramel and general grain hints. Pine and citrus hop notes.
T- Follows nose nicely. All around balance. Good citrus, floral and pine hop notes. Backbone of caramel and sweet malt. Slight roast and raisin.
MF- Creamy moderately thick body with a nice silky carbonation. Finishes bitter.
Yeast and spice character comes out nicely with warmth. Good ending with a nice blend of hops, yeast and malt characters.
