Found in Moscow's biggest discount grocer, this one comes in a brown half liter bottle with a short, thin neck and a yellow and green label featuring some banners above the style name. Ingredients conform to the purity law. Best before 02/19/06, I opened it on 01/14/06.

Pours a standard clear gold under a 1/2 finger white head that fades very quickly to a trace of film and half a collar. No lace worth mentioning. The nose is strong of bad watermelon and metallic hops. The mouth is fairly heavy and well carbonated. The opening brings on more bad watermelon malt, followed by a fairly significant metal and spice hops bite. The aftertaste is first sweet, then dry bitter. Zhigulovskoye was a common style in the bad old Soviet days: it takes some getting used to, but this is a pretty good rendition.
