Found in Moscow largest discount grocery store, the bottle is brown half liter with a short neck and a gold and blue label featuring the banners of what I'm guessing are the five major cities of the "Golden Ring" (that's what the name means) that surrounds Moscow. Rice is an ingredient. Best before 3/1/06, I opened it on 1/24/06.
Pours a clear straw gold hue under a 1/2 finger white head that fades almost instantaneously. No lace, or any other trace of head seconds after the pour. The nose is characterized by the spicey hops, with a touch of raspberry. The mouth is light and well, but not excessively, carbonated. The taste is not at all bad for the style: hops are present from the beginning, slightly tinny but the spicey (cinnamon?) bitter is stronger. There is a bit of bready malt and sweet raspberry or plum, which tries to balance the hops. The malt and fruit in fact prevail, emerging dominant by the aftertaste. Interesting, perfectly respectable Russian beer.
