Poured really dark for a pumpkin, a dark brown and opaque through the center but gradually faded to crimson and eventually amber on the edges. An awesome one inch light tan frothy head was produced on the pour and lingered with excellent retetnion and left some great lacing as well.
The aroma is fantastic. Huge pumpkin pie aromas with cinamon and nutmeg taking the lead. It was almost like an apple spice at times.
The taste didn't live up to the nose for me though. There is a big hop bitterness on it that just doesn't suit a pumpkin beer. But the cinamon and nutmeg are available, as well as a decent malting showing some caramel. The malt profile was kind of muddy though giving a little grainy and bread with a sharp bite (not hop bite). The finish was all bitterness from over hopping.
The mouthfeel was medium bodied and lightly carbonated.
Drinkability is low to moderate. It's ok, but the hop bitterness was really out of place. I was certainly disappointed. Having seen such an unusual color for a pumpkin and follow it with such a rich aroma, it was really disappointing to find myself with a bitter pumpkin pie lacking body in my mouth. Thicken the body a touch, lose some hops, and it'll be a phenomenal pumpkin.
