Got this at a small market in Normandy last summer while on holiday.

From a bottle into a snifter

APPEARANCE: Pours a one finger, medium looking, off-white, foamy head with good retention. Hazy burnt umber in color with higher levels of carbonation. Head fades to a foamy cap. A splotchy wisp remains the whole way and leaves touches of lacing down the glass.

SMELL: Tart cherries, lemon, some floral hops and barnyard on the nose.

TASTE: Milder than hoped for sure. Lightly tart up front with lemon, then some sourness and bready malts at the swallow. Lemon, cherries, bready sweetness and light floral bitterness lingers on the palate. A little milder overall.

PALATE: Thinner body and higher levels of carbonation. Foamy on the palate, goes down bubbly and finishes dry. Light and foamy.

OVERALL: Not my thing. Too little character in the flavor and the look and feel were too foamy for my liking. The sourness is also not something I particularly look for in a strong dark ale. Not something I'd have again. Definitely my least favorite of the four beers I tried from these guys.

Pours a slightly fogged amber brown. Nose is caramel malts. Flavor tangy sweet slightly with spices clearly evident. Earthy backbone is definitely there. Feel is thicker on liquid. Carbonation is slightly full. This is a nice drinker I guess. A bit unusual profile, the same as the other French ales I have been trying. Thicker earthy tones bordering on clay-like with thick yeast. Still it's nice enough to drink I guess.
