Not impressed with this offering from Bischoff. Their beers are really hit or miss. This one's a miss. Nothing about this beer stood out, just a below par weizen.

Date on green 11.2oz bottle reads (I'm inverting the day and month, Euro-style) 02.10.12. I'm hoping that's a bottle date. Anyways, I'm dumping it into a Penn Weizen glass. Proper swirling to follow.

Pours pretty dark for a hefe, like muddy amber. Cloudy, and with lots of sediment (yeast chunks that didn't break down). The head sits beautifully; crowning the beer in pillows of white. Lacing is very nice.

Yeasty white bread, wheat malts, butter, hints of lemon and banana. The fruity esters falter, but the German yeast presence is exceptional. Dry, a little nutty, and right in the limelight. Very bready weizen.

Liquid wheat bread. Snaggles of light clove, grated lemon zest, and spearmint make jabs at attempting to reveal themselves. Hints of honey and green apple skins. Not as dry as the nose, but far from juicy sweet. Firm-fleshed banana comes out in the finish; you know, the kind with a green-yellow peel. Super-breadth again, whereas, this beer tastes nutritious. Minty-ness tapers the tanginess of the wheat and makes the finish breathy. Some slight tinniness picks up in the end, as it warms.

Drinks with richness and breadiness. Tingles of alcohol follow the sixth-through-last sips. Mellow feel without distractions of piling carbonation. Instead, smoothness carries the beer from the mouth to the gullet.

The more I drink, the more it grows on me. And then, I question the average reviews on this site. This beer is developed. Perhaps less fruity than most are used to, it still offers a wallop of bread flavors without being super-complex or showy, for that matter. I'd love to come across this beer more often, because I'd check it out again and probably again.

This beer pours a slightly hazy gold with a huge head and lacing throughout. The aroma lead off with a quick whif of skunkiness followed by normal hefe aromas of banana, lemon, and cake. The flavor was lemony with bananas and a mild hop note. It's mouthfeel is a bit thin for the style but not bad. Bischoff Falkensteiner Ur-Weisse is a good beer, recommended.

Single finger head on a murky golden with slight crimson hues body. Thick lacing.

S: wheat and citrus. Mild overall.

T: nice solid orange peel and lemon throughout the tasting. Solid wheat flavor.

M: full body for the genre. Moderate carbonation. Refreshing.

Overall this is very drinkable and more flavorful than others in the genre.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a goblet.

A - Beer can be poured clear, but if the bottle's dregs are stirred the beer is a cloudy dark golden color with orange highlights. The head is white and made of tiny bubbles.

S - The smell is excellent. It is very clean with grainy wheat and sharp lemon. Not much banana. There is even a hint of hops. This almost smells more like a Belgian wit or saison than a German wheat beer.

T - The taste begins with grainy, sharp wheat followed by noble hops flavor and bitterness. The yeast notes come last, again with mostly lemon and just a hint of bubblegum or banana. The finish is sweet and a bit cloying.

M - Medium body. Creamy carbonation. No alcohol or hops burn.

O - Overall a nice wheat beer that is very clean and citrusy compared to many German examples. I don't find it all that drinkable because of the body and the sweet finish, but that is true of the style as well.

Pours a hazy orange-ish to yellow color with an off white head. In the aroma, dry wheat and small citrus notes. In the taste, dry wheat, hints of citrus and a bit watery. A small hop bite and medium to lighter bodied mouthfeel, with a small dry citrus in the aftertaste. A but dry and a bit thin, eh!

I felt that this beer wasn't as cloudy as I thought it'd be. It was kind of a clear looking wheat beer. Massive head on it, big foamy and white. The aroma was a bit on the sweet side with some nice soft fruits in there. The taste was light, wheat and other grains were present. The Mouthfeel was light and highly drinkable, Could have been a much better beer to have in the summer time with perhaps an orange slice with it.

12 ounce bottle from the beer of the month club poured into a pint glass.

A: Little bit cloudy, hazy, pale yellow in color. Enormous thick creamy white head. Took several minutes to pour the entire beer into the pint glass due to the amount of head created.

S: Bready, yeasty aroma with some spicy clove notes.

T: A little bit banana flavors and some lemony citrus notes. More cloves flavors along with the earthy yeast notes picked up in the aroma. Lingering floral hop notes in the finish.

M: Medium bodied, very creamy in the mouthfeel. Lots of carbonation.

D: Very smooth drinkable hefeweizen, well balanced from a brewery that BOMC says is 144 years old! I'd have to agree with their recommendation to pair this with grilled chicken and mandarin oranges.

Received this beer as a part of the Beer of the Month Club.

The beer pours a hazy golden straw color with a thick white head (that's what she said). There are a moderate number of bubbles rising to the top and a more than moderate amount of sediment meandering down to the bottom of the glass.

As far as the aroma goes... did someone shove a banana in here? (That's what she said?) There is also a nice clove aroma and a hint of lemon.

The initial taste is bitter and loaded with banana. The first impression is that this is one fruity wheat beer.

You get the cloves in the middle of the taste. Where's the wheat? You'll never know it is hidden somewhere behind the bananas that are present throughout.

The finish is crip and dry and the aftertaste is clovey with a hint of yeast.

As I am not a huge fan of wheat beers, I enjoyed this one more than most. It is extremely fruity though so if you are looking for a more straightfoward hefeweizen, this is not the beer for you.

A - Pours a cloudy golden pale straw. 3 Finger fluffy head.

T - Honey kissed clove and lots of it. A nice yeasty character, pears, ham....seriously I'm getting strong ham aromas.

T - Nice spicy yeast, a plethora of wheat, apples, clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

M - Creamy.

A very fall flavored Hefeweizen. It's a Thanksgiving Hefeweizen! This is on the spice side of this style. A solid drinker.

A: Pours a very hazy, golden straw color with a big fluffy white head.

S: Cloves are big here. There's a nice sweet fruitiness, light banana, wheat, and earthy and somewhat chalky yeast.

T: Great, bold, wheat flavor, with a light sweetness and a cracker-like quality. Clove comes through again, along with mildly spicy hops, and a light fruitiness. The yeast is awesome in its role, lending an earthy quality to the persistent wheat twang echo in the finish. Bitterness is very subdued.

M: Medium bodied. Carbonation was strong but not over the top.

D: Excellent balance to this beer, with good flavors too. Could sip and ponder it, or guzzle it.

Overall, a very nice hefeweizen - everything was working for me.

Beer review from BA Mag Oct 2007.

Who ever thought the US would see a Hefeweizen come in a green twist off bottle. As long as we don't see plastic we'll be OK.

We gently flipped the bottle upside down to rouse all of the yeast into solution. A steady pour yields two fingers of sticky white foam; the head retention is amazing with patchy lace on the glass after each sip. The color is a bit beige and orange with a dense cloudiness from the yeast. Fresh yeast and soft floral aroma with hints of clove within the bready wheat. Incredibly smooth and crisp with a dreamy medium body. Big mouthful of bready maltiness with the wheat flavor in the forefront. Suggestions of faint lemon and powdered clove come to mind, a little bit of apple skin as well. Hop bitterness is ultra-modest, the yeast character stays as an undertone and the fruitiness is vague with ripe apples, a bit of banana and some papaya also. Clean and semidry finish with a lingering wheat and yeast note.

Drinkability surpasses most, not as flamboyant as others. Amazing comes to mind, a must try for German beer lovers.

This is a very decent weizen beer. Cloudy pour with a heavy white foamy head that stuck around for the tasting.

Lots of sweet cloves, wheaty and creamy. Something tasty for the spring and summer bbqs.

Nothing to write home about, but one you should pick up if you have the chance.

Got this from a roadside gas station on the way home from TAP NY 2009. Poured from bomber into Weizen glass a cloudy golden yellow with a solid inch of thick white foam. Smells of sweet grass and malt, taste is the same with a hint of lemon. Has a clean crisp mouthfeel and a dry finish. I will share the other 2 bottles with my BA buddies.

Bottle from World of Beer, Clearwater, FL.

Poured clear yellow color with an average fizzy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate grassy wheat aroma. Light to medium body and a thin texture. Medium sweet flavor with a medium grassy sweet finish of moderate duration.

Average beer.
