Appearance: Very dark chestnutty amber-brown with a creamy smooth Declaration of Independence-colored head. Fair retention.
Smell: Astringent in a cola-tangy way at first, but as those initially volatile volatiles dissipate, the hops blossom into a mellow citric ester and a deliciously smooth malt profile shows itself. Chocolatey buckwheat tea, smooth as Horlick's with a divine roastiness that warms my very soul. Nutty and lightly fruity, with some baked apple notes and a suggestion of guava. Very nice.
Taste: Lovely. Toasty and biscuity with hints of bread crusts and milk chocolate, plus a berry-like sweetness and some astringent hops that lend a tangy zing on to the edges of the palate. Very nice, a little bit simple and it seems like they used German hops where they should have used American or British... but nice. Nice and toasty with generous buckwheat flavor.
Mouthfeel: Far too thin and dry, but well-carbonated. Borderline chewable but it doesn't quite make it.
Drinkability: Not bad... but not great. And not really anywhere near as badass or strong as I'd expect from a bear called "demon tradition." It drinks more like a Vienna lager than a red ale, which is not to say it's not bad... just underwhelming. That malt toastiness sure is nice, though.

The color is a deep stained mahogany, with a skimpy-bikini light tan head.
The smell is spices and species, with some sweet roasted malt. Fairly intense. Cinnamon cookies.
The taste is a keen malty sweetness, not really bothered by anything else, be it carbonation or hops--both of which are severely dampened. Some definite accents of red fruits, raspberries. Clean in the mouth, and a little sweet. Only the slightest hints of hop dryness at the rear. Kinda has a Bass thing going on. Refreshing--but not too light either.
