ska doesn't put out a ton of new beer, so when they do, i grab it up, especially when its hop forward stuff. their modus stands as the king of everyday ipa for me. sea buckthorn and juniper instead of orange and coriander in a white ipa is the idea here, and its a damn good idea, its just a little under flavored for me. i want beers like this to really challenge me, surprise me, be different. i think both of those flavors are a little underdone in this brew, but i like it as an ipa. pale wheat colored brew, nice and heady, looks great. the nose is a little piney from the juniper, but its also rather similar to modus in its hop complexion, a little less intense, and with an interesting christmas tree aromatic. in flavor its a lot more hoppy than it is botanical heavy, not as adventurous as the label and ingredient list suggest, but its fun nevertheless. the wheat base is a little bigger and thicker, medium bodied at least, and its hopped deliciously. nice carbonation on it too, quite a refresher. i like when these white india pales aren't done all up with coriander and orange and belgian yeast, and this is a cool new direction for it. worth the humble 7 bucks or so they fetch for it.
