A German Pilsner brewed with Belgium's finest barley and a select German lager yeast. Our lightest beer in both color and body, the Palisades Pilsner is a brew that will please any beer drinker's palate.

Draft at the brewpub.

Pours a mostly clear golden-yellow color with a one-finger white head and great lacing.

Aroma is simple: pale malt, grains, and mild diacetyl.

Flavor is mainly pale malt and grain, without much hop character at all. A little buttery and mildly sweet. Perhaps a better diacetyl rest would have helped.

Fairly light body, not quite as dry and crisp as I'd like this style to be.

This is fairly drinkable, but overall is only an average pilsner. Not offensive but not exciting at all.

This brewery is handicapped from the start. They have no mash tun and so they end up doing basically what beginning homebrewers do, which is to boil up extract and steep some specialty grains, then pitch either dry or fresh starter from the yeast purveyor. This pilsner was made with a dry ale yeast, which takes it out of the true pilsner realm right there. The beer itself was phenolic and slightly murky. The proprietor said that they had improved their process lately, so I shudder to think what the beer was like before. I am inclined to think that the only reason that this place is still in business is the location right there on the highway, catching a lot of tourists who don't know better. There is far better beer coming from Mt. Tallac Brewing Co. not far away. Look for that on taps around the area. Stay away from the Brewery at Lake Tahoe.

A: Bright, clear straw yellow color. Poured a half finger stark white head that dissipated to a broken skim. Very little lacing. Decanted continualy.

S: Wet grains and faint citrus rind.

T: Slightly sweet bready malt. Bittering hops and carbonation leave the finish dry, clean and crips. Did not detect any off-flavors.

M: Light body and ample carbonation; as it should be. Crisp and refreshing.

D: I was actually surprised. Not real flavorful (even for the style) but nothing was wrong with it. Very drinkable and in quantity. I've done musch worse with lagers/pils from other small breweries/brewpubs.
