Red, yes. Ruddy, not really. This is light, tart and crisp. The mouthfeel is rather thin; there is a balance of malts and floral in the aroma, but very little bite. The taste follows suit: a sweet start but not much in the middle or at the finish--maybe a touch of hoppiness. A passable, but certainly not outstanding, brew. Yes; a starter beer. But finish with something else (like their 44 magnum).

Eye Candy: Beautiful transparent garnet red. A little thin on the head. Lacing quickly vanished. No carbonation visable.
The Nose Knows: Crisp and clean. More lager-like, but I must take into consideration that Ruddy is a dry red. Minimal sweetness balanced out with a touch of hops.
Tongueland: Thin, but this is a starter beer for Blue and Bud drinkers. Minimal malts up front that gives way to a dry hopped pale ale feeling, without the pale ale.
Bender: Ruddy is billed as a starter beer. I understand their idea, give them something that isn't "yellow and fizzy."

Balanced though malty, with suffiient hoppiness to keep it popular. perhaps multiple malts. Average around, nothing exceptional but finishable.
I could as easily classified an amber, but given its
maltiness and not exceptionally amber appearance, I think it better classified as I have.
