Named for one of the owner’s grandfathers, Leonard’s is a sensible, straightforward session ale with classic styling and a smart bitter finish. Just wait for that finish. Wait for it. It has a way of sneaking up on you and then letting you have it full-on.

The body is clear dark bronze with a light yeasty nose. Strategic bittering allows for a continuous flow of traditional bitter flavor followed by a crowning deliverance in the finish.

Leonard’s lacks carbonation, head, and excitement but will be eagerly embraced by beer geeks such as myself who appreciate the historic virtues of simple social bitters that can either take the edge off a long hard day or put an edge on if that’s what’s called for.

An excellent candidate for cask conditioning.
