750 mL green champagne bottle, unpasteurized, with 09 10 10 on the foil wrapping. Pours a fairly clear honey color, with medium carbonation, and a white head that leaves a light frothy lace. Toasty with some caramel malts in the nose, with lightly skunky noble hops and a mild yeastiness. Pretty much the same for the flavor, with the addition of a light sweetness on top of a medium body that imparts a crisp and dry finish. Pleasant and easy to drink, but this is mislabeled - this is very much a bière de garde.

i must be drinking a different beer than the other reviewers. or maybe i just taste in a different way. wow is all i can say. first of all, i don't believe this falls in the bpa category. it is definitely more old-world biere de guarde style. second, it tastes like ancient beer, and you can tell (or maybe it's because the importer told me) that there is some open fermentation going on, as there is definitely some local character going on in the funk.
very blonde. almost strawberry blonde, and the suspended yeast makes it glow. eggshell white head that holds well and leaves nice lace.
spicy, earthy, herbal hop and mildly funky, mildly spicy yeasty scents blend with nice, softly toasty/biscuity/fresh bready malty accents to produce pronounced scents that remind me of a lemon rind and white pepper croissant in a field full of wild flowers and green apples.
taste is lemony green apple up front with tons more in the middle, all being delivered with an acidic citric blast that is full of the minerals that that part of the world are blessed with as well as a touch of sour funkiness.
creamy, yet soft and light. mild carbonation. long, pleasant finish with warmth but almost no heat from the booze.
extremely easy to drink. super food friendly. papaya salad and basil chicken are some of my favs to match it with. i honestly could drink this beer every day. elegant. classy. full of finesse and not overbearing. a MUST for saison fans, biere de guarde fans and gueze fans alike. one of the most refreshing beers, both figuratively and literally, that i've had in a long, long time.

Had never seen this before, but pickd one up at the Morton Williams supermarket in NYC. 33cl bottle.
Poured a darker blonde with fast acting white foam. Suspended bits of yeast residuals floating throughout.
Smell is bold/forward Belgian yeast. light fruitiness.
Taste is slightly sour, hints of grape juice. No bitterness apparent. Very clean finish.
Good drinkability. An enjoyable brew - interesting taste, give this one a shot.

(From notes - share from a kind RB)
A - Light yellow gold color; fizzy whitish head
S - Skunky grapes; yeasty; a bit malty; lightly sweet
T - Grassy; touch of the sweetness comes into the taste; fresh bread
M - Lightish; vibrant caronbation
D - Eh, a bit of the grassiness kinda killed the flavor for me and wasn't that interesting or refreshing
Overall, not terrible, but certainly not one that I would rush to revisit.

Cloudy with little chunks of yeast floating around. Blonde in color (no surprise there). Modest head that dies quickly but leaves spotty lace.
Mild Belgian yeast smell with an earthy aroma of fresh tilled ground.
Citrus flavor with a decidedly pineapple flair. The swallow features some sourness. The aftertaste is more of the same but doesn't linger too long. The body is neutral for the style and the carbonation is below my expectations--"sorta flat and watery" says the wife.
Not bad, but not special.

Beer bottle (33cl. and 75cl.), tasted in 1999 and 2006 (little change with yeast).
Appearance : golden color, with white foamy head (not persistent).
Smell : yeast and fruity aromas.
Taste and mouthfeel : sweet and malty flavours, relatively long in the mouth. I prefer the 2006 version.
Drinkability : a good beer in the style Belgian pale ale.
Silver Medal in 2004, bronze in 2005 at the Concours Général Agricole (Paris).

My local market was doing a special on French beer, so I tried a couple in spite of the price ($$$).
Poured from a 33 cl bottle into a pint glass
Medium yellow color, good head
Slightly spice aroma
Spicy, lightly malty taste; no noticeable alcohol
Little bitterness in the aftertaste
Overall much better than average but there are better examples in this style.
