750ml bottle bought from The House Of 100 Breton Beers, Locranon, France...
Poured a murky deep burgundy red colour with some brown hints... massive light tan head pours thick and meringue like then faded slowly to good frothy coating... loads of carbonation rushes to the surface... light sticky lacing...
Aroma - Sweet toasted bready and caramel malts, dark candy sugar, lots of yeastiness, overripe dark fruits (plums, some banana, raisins, dates), some light sour vinegar notes, leathery traces, some pepperiness...
Taste - Lots of toasted biscuity and bready malts, brown sugar and treacle sweetness, very metallic, quite earthy and musty, again some dark overripe fruits (raisins, dates and prunes), alcohol just noticeable, some vegetal hints, light sourness, salty traces...
Feel - Sharp initially then becomes smoother... medium / full bodied... fairly drinkable for 5% but a bit sickly after a while...
Overall - An average and pretty bland example of a Belgian Dark Ale....

33cl bottle, 1/3/10 lot 7.
When uncapped there is no bubbling activity, but there is a fine tan head when poured so I think the seal was okay. Medium brown liquid.
Smells hoppy, piney, with some caramel undertones.
A bit of a cola taste, with some nuttiness. Hazelnuts. Medium bitterness, strong I suppose for the region. Quite good.
Smooth mouthfeel, light carbonation.
Drinkable, without off aromas or noticeable alcohol.
