500ml aluminum can acquired at a Tesco in Bratislava for under 50 cent and served into a Zlaty Bazant pilsner glass in me friend's gaff in Budapest. Reviewed live. Expectations are low. 4.10%. 10 degrees. Can is silver and red.
Served cold. Side-poured gently as overcarbonation is anticipated.
No bubble show forms as it's poured.
HEAD: 3 finger wide head of white colour. Fairly thin. Lacks creaminess, frothiness, and a good complexion & consistency. Retention is average - about 2 minutes. Leaves no lacing as it recedes.
BODY: Clear translucent yellow of average vibrance. Clean; no yeast particulate or hop sediment is visible.
Appears adequately carbonated. Looks underwhelming. I'm pessimistic.
AROMA: Stale barley. Bland generic malts. Some unbecoming sweetness. That's about it.
No yeast. No hops. No alcohol. No off-notes (except for maybe a hint of a metallic note).
This is a poor aroma overall and is redolent of a crap beer. Average in strength. I'm dreading it...
TASTE: Generic barley. Anything but fresh. Generic malts. Some mild sweetness. A faint metallic off-note.
No alcohol comes through. It's devoid of any hop or yeast character.
Painfully dreadfully simple (even for the style). Not a subtle, intricate, nuanced, or gestalt build. I guess it has a loose cohesion.
I can't say I like it much, but it's not terrible - and importantly, it isn't watery. Meh.
TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, artificial, light-bodied, over-carbonated, and relatively thin.
Not oily, gushed, hot, astringent, harsh, scratchy, or boozy.
Poor presence on the palate. This texture does not suit the taste all that well, but to this beer's credit the texture is not watery, which is very important in this style and at this price point.
OVERALL: Yeah, it's a 50 cent supermarket beer. It meets expectations. I'll finish the can and will never consider purchasing it a second time. Students and alcoholics will enjoy this one, but the discerning drinker should keep his/her distance. Not worth trying. I'd caution friends against purchasing it, but in fairness you could do far worse in this style and at this price point. Not a terrible brew.
