this was one of the best brews I tasted on my recent holiday in Slovakia ...

it is a full bodied lager in the classic Czech style .... a very even blend of hops and malt ... this is a beer which can be used as an appetizer as well as accompany some pork or white meat ....

the downside is, it's not easily availabe, even in Slovakia ....

Brought by my Slovak friend straight from Slovakia. Coming in a long-neck, green 330ml bottle, the BB date is 24/12/05. The strength, 14% plato is equivalent to 6.0 %abv., and it seems this is the strongest lager brewed by Topvar (according to its website).

A: served in a 300ml Weissbier glass, it pours a pale golden hue, with a tight, foamy head with good retention against a fiercely fizzy body.
S: very lively water-biscuity malt plus a refreshingly sour doughy and lightly grainy theme upfront, with a lightly lemony and mildly apple-peel like hop aroma supporting at the back; more yeasty, grassy and even earthy note reveals in the background.
T&M: semi-sweetish malt and lively and light grainy flavour first hits the palate, accompanied by a slightly metallic touch; the malty theme gradually turns medicine- and root-vegetable like bitter, with an underlying dryish mouthfeel deep in the throat. On the palate the hop flavour surprisingly provides more bitterness than fruity aroma, quite different from a Czech Pilsner. But the resulted bitterness provides this beer with very good drinkability and depth. The mouthfeel is refreshing throughout, enhanced in the end by the desirable bitterness. However, towards the end the mouthfeel tends to thin out and become a bit watery—a small pity.
D: overall a quite thirst-quenching strong pale-lager. Worth trying.
