"Premium Pils Beer" on the label, rarely an accurate indicator of quality as we all know. Let's see how it dranks...

Poured a hazed gold with slow trails of carbonation visible. There was a decent skim across the top that kept itself together the whole time. Minimal lacing on the opposite side.

Aroma was grassy and clean, a little sweet.

Taste was similarly grassy with an inkling of noble hops under the sweet malt flavor (just short of cloying). Characteristic Czech Pils with a soft well water feel, ample sweetness, and a kiss of hops drying things out. Not as crisp or dry as it could be, but a serviceable Pils nonetheless. Try it if you're a fan of Euro Pilsners, it's decent.

This beer made me miss Johnnie's (RIP), my favorite Czech beer hangout.

Poured from a pint bottle into a 20 oz. beer mug.

A - A clear orange amber with a frothy, quickly dissipating head.

S - A smattering of caramel malt and alcohol.

T - Corny, slightly toffee sweet, with a bitterness that barely seems like hop bitterness. the Hops are mute in this one.

M - watery and very carbonated.

D - Definitely drinkable if you like its taste, but it's not very complex or refreshing enough to get more than the score i settled on.

Overall - Tastes pretty limp and corny compared to other pilseners. If you like the taste of macrobrew lager, I guess it'd be a good choice for you. Otherwise, it's not really worth it.

I had reservations about trying this for some unknown reason...But I did anyway. Poured a clear gold with a temporary white head of fluff that went away along with most chance for lace.

Smelled like a typical American style macro blahhhger and I now realized my instinct should have been heeded.

Taste was also macro'ish with a grain, corn and slight bitterness showing up. Thin mouthfeel and pretty active carbonation.

Finish was fairly dry with more of the aformentioned bitterness.

It may seem like I'm really panning this beer but don't get me wrong, it's not bad as a hot weather cool down but not what I'd go out of my way to have again.

This is Slovakia's numero uno brew and generally speaking, that's a bad thing since a big seller does not a great beer make. The Slovaks don't have the beer chops their former partners do but I've had a lot of Slovak beers and they've all been decent to very good.
This golden, clear lager pours into my pilsner glass and leaves only temporary head. Several streams of carbonation are visible. The main factor in the smell is corn but it's not skunky or vile, just corny.
The taste is layered, with hops and malt sharing the glory and also some metallic and nut notes. Mouthfeel is pleasant without too much carbonation and an overall mellowness.
This is a pretty good beer but I do find it to be more of a Czech style pilsner, not an American Marco cheez. If you like Pilsner Urquel than you'll probably like this.

Clear bridght gold color, pretty standard, head isn't too large, just a small layer after it's initial rise. Strong whiffs of grass, and some other graininess. Pretty standard. Taste is tart and funky, pretty bad for a euro lager. Might be outdated, but who knows? The brewery did not care enough to put a freshness date on it. Boring at best.

Smells better than it tastes... the smell makes me expect something fruitier. The taste strikes me as slightly odd; no freshness date on the brown bottle but it tastes reasonabley fresh.
It's not a bad taste, mind you... just doesn't taste as pilsner-y as I know pilsners to taste.
Good hops presence which makes for a nice mouthfeel. There is also a pleasant slickness on the tongue.
At about a dollar for over a pint this merits another try. Pretty drinkable, pretty refreshing... I don't know how this is a German Pilsner when it's a product of the Slovak republic... maybe this is a czech take on a german pilsner?
Easily worth a try if you're in the mood for a pils.

You know, there's few times when I'm tempted to just outright say that my fellow BAs are wrong, but this really is one of them. I had this beer on my last trip to Slovakia, and I must say, I found it to be fantastic beer. Appearance was gold through and through, and had a very nice head on it, with great retention. Left some good lace on the glass, and head did not vanish with time. Stayed about a 1/3 to 1/4 inch throughout. Smell was mostly toasted malt, slightly spiced-though I couldn't place it. Very sweet smell for a Pils. Taste was great, sweet and yeasty. It was a full brew with a definite bready quality to it, and while some other have said they caught some alcohol in the finish, I did not. It did have a creamy feel to it though, and that was really pleasing.

One of the best beers I had while visiting this part of the world, and if you're ever in the Slovak Republic, I highly recommend it. The country was full of lots of great beer, and this one was right at the top of the list.

Rich golden color with lots of small bubbles rushing upwards. Thick, creamy head that lasts shrinks but never goes away. After about 10 minutes there's still a quarter of an inch.

Smells of toasted malt with a bit of hoppy spice. Not as much sweet malt as I've seen from other pils.

As for taste, there's a lot of bitterness in this brew. I'm drinking it at cellar temperature (which I think is perfect) so the flavors should be pronounced. I'm a bit of the light malt, toasty yeast, an ample amount of bitterness, and some alcohol in the finish. I would classify this as full bodied.

The texture of the beer is great. It's creamy and soft, but then it hits you with some zing in the finish.

Overall, this is a strong Slovak pils. I'm going to see if I can get a case for the Summer.

Pours a crystal clear golden colour with a nice fluffy 2 finger pure white head. Aroma is crisp with slight bready and metallic notes. Flavour is light with hints of bread dough and crisp hops. Finishes dry. There is still a touch of metallic taste in the finish. Mouthfeel is OK with good carbonation and the classic pilsner crisp finish. Drinkability is all right. Nothing really to write home about,

Did not note any skunkiness and I believe they have switched this to a brown bottle.

Overall this is an average Pils. Not the best, but not the worst. I wouldnt turn it down, but probably wont rush out to make this a staple in my fridge

Unfortunately, another green-bottled Euro-Land Lager without any freshness or bottled date info to give you glue wheter you should even had purchased it or, if you do purchase it, where it will register on the "skunky smell meter." Well, upon opening the bottle, one detected immediately a skunky smell that I would consider in the moderate to high category. Unfortunately, that skunky smell score is inversely proportional to the beer review rating it will receive. It poured a pale golden color with a decent head that soon dissapated. Once the skunky aroma faded, there was a slightly fruity hoppy fragrance that was noticable. The taste was dominated by a sweeter, than anticapated, biscuity-like malty flavor. There was only a hint of hops; in the form of a slightly spicey, fruity finish. Not a particularly refreshing or crisp German pilsner; more like a Bohemian style pilsner.

Appearance: Golden looks like the color of apple juice with a big carbonated white head leaves a nice amount of lacing. Aroma: Grassy herbal hop tone nice mild peppery Saaz a little better than most Eastern European lagers. Taste: Crisp sweetness slight skunky finish not too impressive. Mouthfeel: Light bodied lager decent carbonation, blah. Drinkability: Meiocre at best not a beer that I will be buying again.

Pours a clear golden with a thin white head. Streams of carbonation rise to the surface of the beer with great intensity. Good lacing.

There is a slight malt aroma in the nose and not much else.

The taste is pretty plain with a light malt flavor.

The mouthfeel is a little thin but that is to be expected from the style. There is a light dry finish.

This is a pretty drinkable beer that would be good for warm weather consumption. But with so many other better beers out there, this would not be my first choice. An average beer but not bad.

I received this bottle as part of a Christmas gift. Pours out a hazy golden color with a small head that doesn't last at all. The smell is odd. Vanilla, malt, corn and a touch of hops are what I pick up. Taste is better than the smell but more sweet. In fact, very sweet in the beginning and middle with that touch of hops coming through at the end. I also get a burnt taste some place in there as well. Not a great beer and I don't think that I would buy again.

The beer pours a transparent light golden color with a white frothy head. The aroma is almost non-existant. It has the feel of most Czech lager; pale, fairly hoppy, and clean tasting. The taste is refreshing. It is very light with slight malt flavor. It is a nicely carbonated low bodied beer. This is a good drinker, but it's one and done for me. Czech lagers are not my bag.

Pale golden color with white head that dissipates rather quickly. Aromas of pilsener malts and Eastern European hops. Slight dimethyl sulfide aroma. Rather sweet and malty for a pils; smooth and enjoyable. Can't understand why this beer isn't appreciated more in the ratings. Guess there aren't many objective pilsener connoisseurs on BA. (Worse than an American macro... ?!) Sure, I've tasted better, but I sure as hell have tasted worse (insert any swill American macro brand here).

Well, if nothing else, it is from the Czech Republic!

This brew intrigued me, to say the least, complete with its green bottle and all. It is not a bad brew. It is crisp and clean, although somehow metallic in taste. Strange. Nevertheless, I have had much worse...

If someone else has some, give it a try. Otherwise, there are better examples of German-style pilseners.

Pours a nice off-white head and layered underneath is a golden yellow. Smells like fruit salad and malt. There was actually a nice cling down the glass.

The flavor is really sweet, like that of refined sugar. It does, however, have decent carbonation and some metallic-like hops that help mild out the sweet a bit. Much "maltier" than most pils beers I have had and definately feels heavier in the mouth.

But this isn't bad. It has body and an unsual character. It's just not anything to write home about.

Topvar Premium Pils from Slovak Republic: another fine Check style Pils from our friends at Stawski Imports. Good looking pils beer, but with a head that ran off a lot quicker than I’d have hoped. Fruity hops and malts round out a nice eastern European beer, and a great deal at a buck and two bits per half liter. Get a fresh bottle and enjoy.
