not a bad porter, but not as robust as i have come to like them to be, and this almost drinks more like a sweeter brown ale than a porter, lighter on the roasted malt element and heavier on the chocolate and molasses layers. very active from the can, high headed and real fizzy, with a little sediment in there and a medium brown shade. aroma is sweet for me, a touch oxidized for some reason, and with brown sugar and vanilla richness. i get subtle roasted grain in here, but its neither very dark nor very balancing in terms of depth and bitterness, and this almost has a cola or dr pepper flavor to it without any darker grain. i like the cocoa aspect, and i like the little bit of yeast character thats here, bready and sort of enriching the whole thing, but i want this to be a lot less sweet, its a lot of residual sugar, and even one of these feels like a lot because of it, despite high carbonation and a relative lightness on the malt side in terms of color. raisin and date fruitiness in here is nice with the chocolate malt, but a little more unmalted roasted dark barley would pull this into better balance. a little old school, not bad overall, a bit soda-esque, not my favorite from these guys...

Looks like a porter but is a little too bitter in my opinion. It has a nice color. It pours with a small but resilient head. It laces very nicely on the glass. It has a nice smooth mouth feel. The final taste is too bitter to be a great Porter.

Color is dark red-tinged brown with a tall pile of light beige foam in the narrow Bitburger glass. Sudsy mouthfeel. Massively roasted malt with burnt sugar. Dark and bitter chocolate. Surprisingly light body.

Serious caramel flavor with a hoppy edge. Surprisingly sweet, and tastes like a Milk Stout but bitter in the finish. This is so much like fancy chocolate with the sweet and bitter sensations. Not so much to my liking, but it's an interesting variation on the dark theme. From the 12 oz can purchased at Elizabeth Station in Bellingham.

Appearance is transparent dark chestnut with a moderate, fairly persistent, tan head that drops to a thin, stable cap leaving streaky lacing. The aroma is mostly dark roast malts. The taste has hints of dark dried fruit, chocolate, and maybe even a hint of coffee. Mouthfeel is silky smooth.
