I had to do a bit of research about Frankenheimer LN. The website, which is in German, wasn't much help in identifying Frankenheim LN's beer style; another website categorised this beer as an altbier, and since it looks like an altbier, and tastes like an altbier, I guess it is, indeed, an altbier. Although I have never tried Frankenheim's Alt, Frankenheim LN sounds, in reference to the BA reviews, a lot like the Alt.
Frankenheim LN is packaged snazzily and comes in a neon-like dark blue bottle. I had to take care before buying this beer that it was, in fact, beer. Privatbrauerei Frankenheim also makes, in addition to the Alt and the LN, a combination cola and beer concoction (so I have been led to believe)marketed as Frankenheim Blue.
The appearance of Frankenheim LN (I couldn't figure out the meaning of the two letter designation) is darkly bronzed and has a handsome beige head that leaves a lot of sticky lace. The body of the beer looks, if you hold your glass up to the light, like cola. This is an observation, and not intended as a slam.
The aroma is roasted malts ~ sweet and toasty at first, but with a suggestion of the bitterness that will soon become apparent when you take your first sip.
The taste is initially sweet, with a bit of that basic malt-flavour found in a good pilsener. There are hints of caramel followed by a bitter hops-induced flavour that linger on the palate. The finish is quite dry.
Frankenheim LN is brewed in Düsseldorf.
