Pours a dark, clear amber color. 1 finger off white head. The retention is quite poor, and there's no lacing on the glass.
The nose is fairly faint. There's a slight malt aroma here, but fairly faint.
Taste - Very malty, and fairly sweet. There's also another flavor going on here that I just cant quite put my finger on. I wish I could describe it. It's not a bad flavor, just different.
The body is decent for this style.
An interesting Red Ale, and not bad, just a bit different.

Dark amber (18) reddish draught pour with off white head; no cap retention and no lace. Weird overripe fruit odor. Sharp vinegary taste. Light watery mouthfeel and no carbonation. This was a really bad beer on all fronts.

Valkrie Red pours a cloudy reddish color with no head. There is a sweet yet roasted malty aroma. The taste was rather sweet, some roasted flavors, and an earthy aftertaste. The body was flat. Overall its sweeter and earthy, and a bit thick, the flatness doesn't help.

A ride to the north, that is South Dakota, in Watertown to try their Vienna style red, Valkrie Red
No mistype here, and sorry to Richard Wagner, Valkrie Red comes out as a light amber color but the red hints become more prominent looking at it through the light. A malty smell with, as advertised, a strong Vienna aroma. The head retention was ok and lasted but there was little to no laciness.
Like a very large woman with a Viking helmet on, Valkrie Red is different than expected. The malt flavor dominates the taste, as there is little hop flavor. The menu lists a smooth, clear hop, but clearly there is no hop. Really there is limited Vienna flavor as the beer has instead has more of a stronger base malt flavor instead. This really was a strong characteristic of the beer. It is close to becoming a Vienna lager thatÂ’s an ale, but would need less bas and more specialty grains. Maybe if more hops were added then it might tone down the beer and even brighten up a few specialty malts.
Unlike Wagner, I really needed more from this beer. Either more with a Vienna flavor instead of pale or 2-row flavor or at least definitely more of a hop flavor. Although the flavor is a strong point this actually was a decent drinkable beer as the malt dominates the beer. But for all those hop heads out there (guilty as charged), this might not be the beer for you.
